The 2020+ Toyota GR Supra A90's factory charge pipe is molded plastic with a slip-joint connection. On stock boost it lasts. Flash a Stage 1 tune with MHD or bootmod3 and start seeing 20+ psi and the OEM plastic pipe becomes a known failure point — it deforms, splits at the connector, or blows completely off the intercooler outlet under boost. Why the Factory Plastic Charge Pipe Fails on a Tuned A90
The OEM charge pipe was engineered for stock B58 boost targets around 14–16 psi. It's thin-wall injection-molded plastic with a rubber coupling and a slip-fit joint at each end. Cold, it's fine. Hot and pressurized to Stage 1+ boost levels, the plastic softens, the joint flexes, and the coupling either leaks (loss of boost = slower spool, thrown boost-request codes) or catastrophically blows off (limp mode, tow home).
Every long-term tuned A90 owner eventually replaces this pipe — either preventively when they add supporting mods, or reactively after a roadside failure. Install Notes (Real Gotchas)
- Budget 60–90 minutes. Approachable driveway install with basic tools. Remove OEM plastic pipe, transfer MAP sensor, install Wagner pipe, torque clamps evenly.
- Transfer the MAP sensor carefully. Use a new O-ring — the OEM one gets brittle. Cross-threading the sensor into the aluminum bung means a new pipe.
- Torque the T-bolt clamps evenly and in stages. Alternate sides — never full-torque one side before the other. Uneven clamp load will cock the coupler and leak.
- Check for coupler-to-hood clearance. Not a common issue but verify hood shut closes fully with the new pipe installed before your first drive.
- Boost leak test recommended. After install, pressurize the intake tract to 15 psi with a smoke tester if you have access. Cheaper to find a leak in the shop than on a datalog.
- No tune change required. Same MAP position, same intake volume — ECU sees no difference.

FAQ
Will this fit my aftermarket intake manifold?
The .OEM variant fits OEM, AMS, HKS, and most other aftermarket manifolds that retain OEM inlet position. For the Wagner EVO1 intake manifold specifically, you need the .WT variant (different inlet clocking). If you're unsure, message us your manifold brand and we'll confirm.
Do I need a tune to run this?
No. The MAP sensor stays in its factory position and the pipe is dimensionally OEM. Works on stock or tuned ECU.
Will it throw a CEL?
No. The MAP signal is unchanged from OEM.
Wagner vs. Mishimoto vs. VTT vs. Injen — which is best?
All four are legitimate aluminum replacements. Wagner offers the tightest tolerances and best long-term durability record. Mishimoto is the value pick with a solid warranty. VTT has the most aggressive routing for high-boost builds. Injen is more focused on sound/appearance. For a street/track A90, Wagner is the balanced choice.
Any downsides to going aluminum?
Slightly more heat transfer to the intake charge — negligible in real-world operation, especially if you also upgrade intercooling (CSF, AMS heat exchanger).
Do I need new clamps?
Wagner includes T-bolt clamps. Use those — do not reuse OEM worm-drive clamps. The T-bolt design is required to hold the coupler at boost pressure.
