  • Description

KW Height Adjustable Springs (H.A.S.) let you drop your G80 M3, G82 M4, or G87 M2 by up to 30mm while keeping the OEM adaptive dampers, all the driver assistance systems, and the ride comfort that made you buy the car. This is not a fixed-height lowering spring. Continuously adjustable within the range, coded to your OEM electronics with zero fault codes, and validated on the Nürburgring Nordschleife by KW engineers before it ever ships.

Why fixed lowering springs are the wrong answer for a G80

Most lowering springs give you one height — whatever the manufacturer picked. Get the fitment wrong for your wheel and tire combo and you either can't clear the fender or the car sits ugly high. Get it right and you're still stuck with it. And every conventional lowering spring changes the spring rate in ways the OEM adaptive dampers weren't tuned for, which means the ride quality degrades and the electronic damper mapping starts fighting the springs.

KW's H.A.S. system solves both problems. Continuously adjustable height from 15-30mm front and 5-20mm rear, and spring rates matched to the OEM damper valving so the adaptive suspension electronics keep working the way BMW engineered them.

What makes the KW H.A.S. different

  • Continuously adjustable ride height — 15-30mm (0.6"-1.2") front, 5-20mm (0.4"-1.0") rear, adjustable at any time after install using the included KW height adjuster
  • Chrome-silicon steel springs with rates tuned specifically to the G80/G82/G87 wheel loads and OEM damper characteristics
  • OEM adaptive damper compatibility — no coding, no fault codes, no error messages. All driver assistance systems (adaptive M suspension, lane keep, etc.) remain fully functional
  • Vehicle-specific bump stops with dust protection — extends the life of your factory dampers by keeping road grime and debris out
  • Validated on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and on KW's 7-post driving dynamics test rig — this is not a spring calculated on a spreadsheet
  • Includes vehicle-specific elastomers and spring perches — no universal-fit compromises

  • Non-M variants (330i, 440i, M240i, etc.) — these use different spring rates and mounting hardware. If you have a G20/G22/G42, we can point you to the correct KW kit

What's in the box

  • 4 vehicle-specific chrome-silicon steel springs (front and rear)
  • KW height adjuster mechanisms (top perches)
  • Vehicle-specific bump stops with dust protection
  • Spring perches and elastomer isolators

Not included: factory dampers (this kit uses your OEM dampers), alignment (required after install).

Installation notes

The KW H.A.S. install is straightforward for a shop or a well-equipped DIYer, but it is more involved than a coilover swap because you're removing and reassembling the OEM strut assemblies. Budget 4-6 hours for a competent DIYer with a lift, spring compressor, and full metric tool set. A shop can do it in 2-3 hours.

  • You need a proper coil spring compressor. The G80 front struts are under significant preload — a cheap spring compressor is genuinely dangerous. Use a wall-mounted or professional external compressor
  • Do the fronts and rears together. Do not lower only one axle — the corner weights will be uneven and the alignment will be permanently off
  • Set the initial ride height in the middle of the range (~22mm front, ~12mm rear). This gives you room to go up or down after you see how it sits with your wheels and tires
  • Alignment is mandatory after install. Camber and toe will change significantly. Budget an alignment appointment the same day or day after. No exceptions
  • Torque the top hats to BMW factory spec. Consult the BMW TIS document — over-torque will damage the strut bearing
  • xDrive cars require slightly different rear spring seating. The kit includes the correct hardware for both RWD and AWD — read the KW manual for your specific configuration
  • After install, drive the car for 200-300 miles to let the springs settle before doing your final height measurements and adjustments
  • Re-check the height and re-torque top hat bolts after the first 500 miles

Do you actually need this kit?

The G80/G82 lowering spring market is crowded. Here's the honest breakdown:

Buyer profile Best choice Why
Wants adjustable ride height, factory adaptive suspension retained, no coding KW H.A.S. (this kit) The only major kit that gives you continuously adjustable height without touching the dampers or electronics
Wants the lowest cost, fixed drop, tolerates a slightly firmer ride H&R Sport Springs or Eibach Pro-Kit ~$300-$400, fixed drop (~1.0" front / 0.75" rear), well-proven, no adjustability
Wants full coilover control, custom damping, track-focused KW V3 / KW Clubsport / Ohlins Road & Track Replaces OEM dampers entirely, $3,500-$6,500, adjustable damping in addition to height
Track-only car with lots of camber and negative pack KW Clubsport with camber plates Purpose-built for track, requires more compromises for street use

Buy the KW H.A.S. if you want the OEM adaptive suspension experience — with the exact ride height you want — for less than half the cost of a full coilover setup, and without the tuning headache of matching aftermarket dampers to your driving style.

Frequently asked questions

Will the adaptive M suspension still work?
Yes. This is the biggest reason to buy KW H.A.S. over fixed lowering springs. The OEM electronic damper control remains fully active. Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ modes all work exactly as designed. No dash lights, no fault codes, no coding.

Will I need to code the car?
No. The H.A.S. kit uses your OEM dampers and OEM ride-height sensors. The car does not know you installed new springs. No BimmerCode, no ISTA, no dealer visit.

Does this fit my G87 M2?
Yes. 253200EB is validated for 2023-2025 G87 M2 in addition to G80 M3 and G82 M4. The M2 shares the front and rear suspension geometry with the M3/M4.

Does this fit xDrive?
Yes. Fits both RWD and AWD (xDrive) variants. The kit includes hardware for both configurations — follow the correct section of the KW manual for your car.

Does this fit the G83 M4 Convertible?
No. The convertible has different chassis stiffening and requires a convertible-specific KW H.A.S. kit. Ask us for the correct part number for your Convertible.

How much can I actually drop the car?
Front: 15-30mm (0.6"-1.2"). Rear: 5-20mm (0.4"-1.0"). Continuously adjustable within those ranges. Most owners settle around 25mm front / 15mm rear — enough to close the fender gap without harming ride quality.

Will the ride get harsher?
Slightly. The springs are stiffer than stock (that's how they hold the car lower). But KW rates are tuned to work with the OEM dampers, so the harshness is far less than what you'd get from H&R or Eibach at the same drop height. Most owners describe it as "OEM Sport+ feel at any drive mode."

What about tire clearance?
Depends on your wheel and tire setup. OEM 19"/20" staggered fits fine at any drop within the KW range. Aftermarket wide wheels (10-11" wide) may rub at the extreme low end — start at middle of the range and adjust down carefully.

Do I need an alignment?
Yes. Camber and toe will change when you lower the car. Book an alignment the same day as the install. Non-negotiable.

What's KW's warranty?
5-year limited warranty on the springs from original purchase date. Damage from improper installation, off-road use, or racing is not covered.

Can I install this in my driveway?
Only if you have a proper coil spring compressor (wall-mounted or professional external), safe jack stands or a lift, a torque wrench, and metric tools. The G80 front strut spring preload is high — a cheap Harbor Freight compressor is dangerous. If you don't have the right compressor, take it to a shop.

Kinetic install service (Glen Burnie, MD)

We install KW H.A.S. kits on G80/G82/G87 platforms regularly. If you're local to the Baltimore / DC / Annapolis / Northern Virginia area, we can install, corner-balance, and align the car in a single appointment. If you want to combine this with other suspension work (control arms, endlinks, sway bars) we can do all of it in the same session and save you a second lift charge. Contact us to schedule or ask any fitment or setup question before you buy.

Kinetic Autoworks is a Maryland-based BMW performance shop specializing in the G8X M chassis. We have installed dozens of coilover and spring kits on G80s and G82s, and we know these cars — including the small install gotchas that don't appear in the KW manual.
