CSF Charge-Air Cooler Manifold #8200 – A90 Supra & BMW B58 (M340i, M240i, M440i, X3/X4/X5 M40i)
- Description
The billet aluminum charge-air cooler manifold that turned the B58 into a 1000+whp platform. The CSF #8200 replaces the OEM plastic water-cooled intake manifold with a motorsports-grade 12-row bar/plate intercooler core - double the cooling capacity, ~30°F lower intake air temps, and integrated port injection provisions when you need to feed real horsepower. This is the manifold Titan Motorsports runs on their 8.18-second quarter mile A90 Supra. It's what Kinetic Autoworks installs on B58 builds pushing past 600whp. If you're serious about the B58, this is the mod that unlocks the platform.
Why the OEM manifold is holding you back
The stock B58 water-cooled intake manifold is fine for a bone-stock car. Once you add bolt-ons, a bigger turbo, port injection, or more boost, three problems show up fast:
- Heat soak. The plastic OEM housing and 6-row cooling core can't shed heat under sustained load. IATs climb, the ECU pulls timing, and eventually you hit limp mode.
- Pressure drop. The OEM core is a flow restriction at higher boost targets. Your turbo has to work harder to hit the same manifold pressure.
- No port injection path. If you're planning port injection (basically required past ~600whp on E85), the stock manifold has nowhere to mount injectors and a fuel rail. You need an aftermarket manifold to go there.
What CSF changed
- 12 cooling rows vs OEM 6 - double the water-to-air heat transfer surface area
- Motorsports-grade bar/plate core - more efficient than the OEM tube/fin design
- Billet aluminum, 100% TIG welded - replaces the OEM plastic housing that cracks and warps with age
- Integrated air divider in the inlet tank - distributes airflow evenly across all six cylinders (fixes the OEM design's cylinder 5/6 lean-out tendency at high boost)
- Recessed oil-filter access - you can change your oil without pulling the manifold
- Integrated AN-8 top-feed port injection rail - drops in on the outlet side with Radium Engineering feed/return fittings
- 1/8" NPT ports on every cylinder runner - for nitrous or methanol injection
- 3-port sensor pad on the inlet tank - for TMAP, vacuum, or datalogging sensors
- Designed with SolidWorks CFD, tested with VF Engineering over 50 back-to-back dyno pulls
Verified performance (VF Engineering + MotoIQ testing)
| Metric | OEM manifold | CSF #8200 |
|---|---|---|
| Cooling rows | 6 | 12 |
| Inlet IAT under load (~90°F ambient) | ~260°F | ~230°F (30°F lower) |
| Heat soak recovery | Slow, entered limp mode | Fast, no limp mode |
| Dyno delta at ~400whp (Stage 2, no port injection) | Baseline | +26whp / +11wtq |
| Max verified vehicle power | N/A | 1000+whp (Titan Motorsports) |
CSF's own note: "The performance delta between CSF and OEM will be bigger as power is increased in the vehicle." At 400whp you gain 26. At 800whp+ the OEM manifold becomes a serious bottleneck and the delta grows.

Install notes
The CSF #8200 is designed as a plug-and-play OEM replacement. No cutting, no drilling, no ECU tune required just to run the manifold. Expect the following:
- Install time: 2-3 hours for a competent DIYer with the right tools. Add ~1 hour if you're installing port injection at the same time.
- Coolant drain required. Plan to bleed the system after install - either the OEM 15-minute BMW/Toyota procedure or a vacuum bleeder (much faster, ~$80 tool from Amazon).
- Order intake manifold gaskets before you start. OEM gaskets can often be reused if they're clean, but have new ones on hand.
- Cylinder 3 bolts first. CSF's install order starts at the center runner and works outward - follow their diagram exactly.
- The rear wiring harness is tight. Multiple installers on SupraMKV forums recommend unbolting the harness at the rear of the manifold before installation and reinstalling it after the manifold is seated. CSF's instructions mention this as an option.
- Engine cover fits with the base manifold. If you install the port injection fuel rail, the OEM engine cover will need to be modified to clear it - most builders just run without the cover at that point.
- No tune required to install. If you're not adding port injection or bigger turbos at the same time, your existing tune will run fine.
Kinetic Autoworks installs the CSF #8200 on Supra and B58 BMW builds regularly, including with port injection, larger turbos, and full CSF cooling packages. Local to Baltimore/DC/Northern Virginia? Request an install quote.
Do you actually need this?
Straight talk: if your car is stock or Stage 1 (tune only) and you're not planning to push past ~450whp, you probably don't need this manifold. Add a heat exchanger and a Stage 1 tune first - much cheaper wins per dollar. The CSF #8200 becomes essential when:
- You're going Stage 2+ (downpipe + higher-boost tune) and running the car hard at the track, on E85, or in hot weather
- You're planning port injection (past ~550-600whp on E85 or ~500whp on pump)
- You're upgrading turbos (Pure Turbos 750/850, TR Turbos, Doc Race, etc.)
- You're running back-to-back roll racing, dyno pulls, or track sessions and hitting heat soak
Frequently asked
Will this fit my Gen 1 B58 (2016-2019 M240i, 340i, 440i, 540i, 640i, 740i, 840i, X4 M40i pre-facelift)?
No. Gen 1 B58 requires the CSF #8300 manifold. This #8200 is for Gen 2 B58 only (B58B30M1, B58B30C, B58B30O1) which is what's in all A90 Supras and 2020+ BMW B58 vehicles. If you're unsure which Gen you have, send us your VIN.
What's the difference between the CSF #8200 and the Race X #8400?
The #8200 is the "Super Manifold" - proven to 1000+whp, air-to-water cooling, factory-style oil filter access, supports up to 60 PSI. The Race X #8400 is the next step up - larger air-to-air setup for extreme drag/roll racing builds where you're running dedicated racing conditions and don't need daily-driver-friendly features. For 99% of B58 street/track builds, the #8200 is what you want.
Do I need to run port injection to benefit from this?
No. You get the 30°F IAT reduction, the pressure drop reduction, and the heat soak resistance regardless. The port injection rail is included so you have the option later without buying a different manifold.
What injectors work with the included fuel rail?
The rail is designed for short-body top-feed injectors with 7mm apertures. CSF specifically recommends Injector Dynamics ID1050.34.14.14.6 (quantity 6). ID1300 and other Injector Dynamics short-body options also fit. If you're going bigger, contact us and we'll help you spec the right injector.
Will I lose my OEM engine cover?
Only if you install the port injection fuel rail - the rail sits where the cover mounts. Most builders running port injection just leave the cover off. If you're not running port injection, the OEM cover bolts right back on.
Does this void my BMW/Toyota warranty?
Modifying the intake manifold is a modification the manufacturer can point to if there's a related engine failure claim. If your car is still under factory warranty and you plan to keep it, understand that risk. Most B58 builds installing this manifold are already tuned (which is its own warranty issue).
Any known install gotchas?
Two: (1) the rear wiring harness is tight - most people unbolt it first, install the manifold, then reinstall the harness; and (2) the OEM O-rings on the runner gaskets can tear if you're not careful pulling the OEM manifold - have replacements ready.
Can I install this on a car with Fuel-It port injection already installed?
Yes, but you'll need to remove the Fuel-It kit first since the CSF #8200 uses its own integrated fuel rail. Reach out if you're planning that swap - Kinetic has done several of these.
