The factory B58 downpipe on the 2020+ Toyota GR Supra A90 is a heat-soaked, close-coupled cat that chokes turbo spool the moment you ask the car for real boost. Why the Factory Downpipe Holds a Tuned A90 Back
The OEM B58 cat runs a dense-cell substrate mounted directly to the turbo housing. It was engineered for cold-start emissions and cabin quietness, not for the sustained exhaust volume a Stage 1 or Stage 2 tune generates. On a stock ECU you may not feel it. Once you flash MHD or bootmod3 and start commanding 22–24 psi, the OEM downpipe becomes the single largest restriction in the exhaust path — spool slows, exhaust gas temperature climbs, and the turbo works harder for the same peak boost target.
Tuners consistently report that the same map on the same fuel gains real crank power just by removing the OEM downpipe restriction, because the turbo finally sees a normal exhaust pressure delta. This is the highest-leverage $950 exhaust mod you can make before touching the turbo itself.

Note: Some builders reuse OEM turbo studs. Inspect condition before install — replace if pitted or stretched.
Install Notes (Real Gotchas)
- Get the car in the air properly. This is a two-post lift or full quad-jack job. Do not do this on ramps — you can't get to the turbo V-band from underneath without dropping the front subframe or hooking a lift.
- Undo the flex-joint downstream first. The OEM downpipe fights you if the cat-back is still under tension. Loosen the mid-pipe hangers before you touch the turbo flange.
- Turbo studs seize with heat cycles. Soak them with penetrating oil the night before and use a 6-point socket — a 12-point will round them.
- Reindex the O2 sensor. Anti-seize the threads and torque to spec. Cross-threading a B58 O2 bung is a $$$ mistake.
- Flash your tune BEFORE you drive. A stock ECU with this downpipe will throw a P0420 CEL within a few miles. MHD, bootmod3, or a custom map is a required paired install.
- Heat wrap is optional. The 200-cell design already sheds heat better than OEM. Wrap only if you're running an intake close to the turbo hot side.

FAQ
Will this throw a CEL?
With a proper tune (MHD, bootmod3, or Ecutek) that has the rear O2 monitor disabled or adjusted, no. On the stock ECU, yes — expect a P0420 within a few drive cycles.
Is it emissions-legal?
It has a 200-cell metallic cat, so it passes visible-inspection states. It is not CARB-EO certified. For CARB / sniffer states, verify local requirements.
Do I need a full cat-back too?
No. It bolts directly to the OEM cat-back or any aftermarket A90 mid-section. Adding a cat-back is a sound / weight / aesthetic decision, not a horsepower one.
Wagner vs. Active Autowerke vs. MST — which is better?
All three are enthusiast-tier "no-CEL" downpipes. Wagner uses V-band flanges and slightly heavier-wall construction; Active Autowerke's GESI unit has the strongest CEL-suppression track record; MST is the price-leader. For a US-model A90 built for street + occasional track, Wagner is the pragmatic middle.
How loud does it get?
Adds 2–4 dB at idle over OEM, more character on cold start, and a noticeably crisper spool sound under load. Not disruptive on the stock cat-back. Loud only when paired with a muffler-delete cat-back.
Will it fit with the KLM race dual-outlet exhaust I already have?
Yes, as long as your cat-back uses the OEM downpipe slip-joint diameter. Almost all A90 cat-backs (KLM, HKS, Akrapovic, Fabspeed, ETS) match.
